Where Families Find Community
At Fiver, we know that stronger families build stronger futures. That's why our 10-year commitment extends beyond the young people in our program to include the parents, caregivers, and siblings who are part of their journey.
This spring, families gathered for events that blended celebration with learning—from Family Game Night and our annual Family Day in Central Park to Parent Empowerment Week, where caregivers connected with experts from NYC Teenspace, APICHA Community Health Center, and Qualitas of Life Foundation. Together, these workshops equipped families with practical tools and resources on youth mental health, family finances, SNAP benefits, health insurance, and educational pathways.
Parent Empowerment Week concluded with a special Plant & Connect Social, where parents, guardians, and Fivers planted succulents to take home as a symbol of growth. As each family "planted a seed," they reflected on something they hoped to nurture in the year ahead—whether greater confidence, stronger relationships, or new opportunities for their child and family.
What we heard from families was just as meaningful as what we shared. Parents told us they valued practical workshops on college admissions, financial aid, scholarships, and supporting their children's growth. Just as importantly, they shared that these gatherings helped them feel more connected—to one another, to Fiver staff, and to a community of families navigating many of the same experiences.
This spring also marked the return of Fiver Club, our first community-based gathering in several years. With support from volunteers from EverBank, 18 Fivers and four parents came together at Queens Community House to reconnect, build relationships, and strengthen ties within their own neighborhood. As we look ahead, we're excited to continue bringing Fiver Club to additional community partners, including CAMBA and Mercy Center, helping us stay connected with Fivers and families where they live year-round.
One parent reflected on the remarkable growth they had seen in their child since joining Fiver, describing increased confidence and independence while expressing gratitude for the partnership and support their family has received along the way. Stories like these remind us that when families feel supported, young people are empowered to thrive.
This summer, we are thrilled to welcome 67 new campers to the Fiver community! We're grateful to walk alongside not only the young people in our program, but the families who make their journeys possible. Together, we're building a community where every child—and every family—has the opportunity to grow.
