Keeping the Magic of Camp Fiver Alive
There's something special about Camp Fiver that campers and staff can feel the moment they arrive. It's found in our traditions, our songs, our daily rituals, and the way every activity—from campfires to canoeing—helps young people grow as leaders, teammates, and members of a community.
We're thrilled to share that through the American Camp Association Inc.’s Character at Camp Implementation Grant, powered by support from SMBC, we are strengthening and preserving that culture for generations of campers to come.
With this support, Fiver worked with Kai Kunkel from the Social Emotional Learning Project to create our very first Camp Fiver Culture Book—a resource that captures the stories, traditions, and intentional practices that have shaped Camp Fiver for more than 25 years. More than a handbook, it will help train our seasonal staff on the heart of the Camp Fiver experience: how everyday moments, cherished traditions, and our Whole Self curriculum come together to build character, confidence, and belonging.
The project strengthens the connection between the joy of camp and the youth development that happens every day—from morning announcements and lunchtime shout-outs to Whole Self lessons and our beloved Dog Tag Ceremony. By documenting what has long been passed down through experience, we'll ensure the "magic sauce" of Camp Fiver continues to inspire campers and staff for years to come.
