15-16 year olds in the Leadership Education and Development Program (LEAD) perform community service projects, participate in Ethical Decision-making classes and a related video-making project, visit college campuses, and embark on an extended wilderness experience in the Adirondacks.

Community Service
Teens in the LEAD program have all been attending Camp Fiver for at least 4 summers, and they provide positive role models for our younger campers. Teens volunteer to work as assistant teachers instructing one class per day, they are given responsibilities to plan and lead camp-wide events, they mentor first-year campers as part of our Teens Leading Campers (TLC) initiative, and they each have a discrete task in camp (i.e. distributing water jugs around camp) that they fulfill everyday. Helping campers recognize their role in positively impacting the community is fundamental to the Fiver experience.

Leadership
It is our goal to help adolescents grow as leaders in the camp community and beyond. Teens in this program develop problem solving, communication, and decision making skills as they prepare for a 5-day wilderness expedition in the Adirondack Mountains.

Self-Discovery
Our adolescents learn a great deal about themselves, what they are capable of achieving, and the impact they can have on their own lives, their communities, and the world around them. They push their physical, social, and emotional boundaries on a 5-day wilderness expedition; extend their intellectual boundaries as they ponder, discuss, and research the role of ethics on historical events in Fiver’s learning center; and broaden their understanding of the great potential they have as they make plans for their future educations and careers.
